    Top Four Things Your Website Needs for your Business To Flourish in 2019

    As we are slowly but surely approaching the latter end of the year, and indeed this decade, the way we browse the Internet has changed drastically since the start of it. The days of dial up internet are long gone, broadband has evolved into super fast fibre optic and even desktop computers are increasingly becoming a less used platform in the world of online browsing, as users gradually switch to smartphones. Keeping on top of web design in this constantly changing digital revolution is almost a job in itself, but necessary for maintaining your website performance.     Mobile First

    It seems obvious, but making sure your website is designed for mobile first is essential in today's online surfing. In 2015, Google announced that Mobile browsing was more popular than desktop browsing, and has since introduced a mobile first indexing feature in it's Webmaster Tools, which means that having a mobile friendly website is crucial not only for user experience, but also for SEO purposes. Bold colours, Hamburger menus and stacking elements on top of each other in an aesthetically pleasing format is critical to encourage users to continue browsing your website, especially if they're using a smartphone.

    SSL Certificates

    You wouldn’t think the simple addition of a seemingly insignificant “S” would have such a huge impact on your website’s performance, but it now comes as standard when browsing online, we are seeing less of “http” and more “https”.

    Historically, SSL certificates were only necessary for E-Commerce websites, as this ensured that all transactional information was encrypted. However, since Google's push for a more secure browsing experience, it introduced a new requirement that if an SSL certificate is not implemented, Google will instead display an "insecure website" notification as opposed to the homepage when users visit your website, and not only this, it could also have an effect on your website’s SEO. So, ensuring an SSL certificate is installed onto your website is absolutely necessary to keep that traffic coming in.

    Sticky Navigation Bars

    The navbar has always been a constant within web design, the fundamental elements having always been a logo and a link to the website’s pages. A useful practice to implement in your website is a sticky navigation, meaning that when a user scrolls down the page, the navbar will stay fixed to the top of the page. This gives the user easy access to jump to any page they want, without having to scroll back up to the top of the page. Whilst we’re at it, making sure your navabar is laid out in a logical way is also important as you want users to be able to find your website content easily.We want our users to have the best experience when browsing online, and every little helps!

    Live Chat

    As people are gradually becoming more used to communicating digitally, the addition of a live chat service has huge benefits to the customer experience side of things on your website. Depending on which service you use, the live chat can be present on your website for 24 hours a day, meaning you can get those extra conversions for your business during out of office hours. A welcoming pop-up chat on your site with a bright colour scheme represents the friendly customer assistant, inviting users to straight away to use the service.
