YSP Museum of the Year
by The Design Bank on 10 July 2014
Very proud that our local art spot the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (a mere 25 minutes away from The Design Bank) has been named Museum of the Year, scooping the £100,000 Art Fund Prize. It beat a fair few reputable names to the top prize, including the Hayward Gallery, London; The Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth and Tate Britain, London. YSP was chosen as the winner for the restoration of its 18th century chapel, and 2013 exhibitions including the Yinka Shonibare show and the installation of Roger Hiorns’ Seizure, a piece which saw Hiorns transform an empty council flat into ‘a sparkling blue environment of copper sulphate crystals’ using 75,000 litres of liquid copper sulphate. It was moved to the park in May last year. G'warn Yorkshire!
