World Press Photo of the Year
by The Design Bank on 30 October 2014
From conflicts in Syria, Gaza and the Central African Republic through to shots of daily life or sporting triumph across the world, the World Press Photo of the Year exhibition provides a memorable visual snapshot of the key moments and events from the past year. This years overall winner was taken by American photographer John Stanmeyer, which shows a group of African migrants on the shore of Djibouti City at night, raising their phones in an attempt to capture a signal from neighbouring Somalia. We think it's quite a interesting shot, and make you think about just how much phones play a role in our lives.
